Our approach to CNA
The model we use to conduct CNAs is based on the following tenets:
- Partners - a group of knowledgeable stakeholders to help with the process, representing a range of perspectives
- Data - information beyond our assumptions highlight the needs of our population
- Solutions - recommended strategies to ameliorate the confirmed needs in a practical, action-oriented way
The approach described is based on the work of Witkin and Altschuld (1995) and Altschuld and Kumar (2010) and the lessons learned from a pilot study conducted in 2002 with four state Migrant Education Programs (MEPs)—Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Texas, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Migrant Education and the Comprehensive Center Network.
ESCORT was a partner in this pilot study and has since become a leading expert in the CNA process. To find out more about our work, follow the links here.
