Here are some of the things we'll remember accomplishing together:

Creating, facilitating and institutionalizing regional groups of state directors to share, collaborate and learn from each other better administrative and program function and strategies.

Creating and institutionalizing annual forums for all MEP personnel responsible for ID&R in the country. The forums continued for 20 years and provided staff the opportunity to increase their knowledge on recruitment and coordinate with their peers from other states with whom they may share students.

Originally designed as a tool for better ID&R of families as they moved from state to state, ESCORT launched the technically innovative National Migrant Education Hotline. After 20+ years of operation, the Hotline received hundreds of thousands of calls from migrant families and served as a safe and user friendly 800 number for farmworkers in need of help with food, clothing, shelter, medical, transportation, legal as well as educational emergencies.

These and other activities were effective thanks to consultants and a truly dedicated staff which combined a high order of skill sets, a "can do" and enthusiastic attitude, and a "believer in the cause" mentality that made ESCORT a truly unique and highly respected organization.

With this in mind, we want to thank the migrant education community – recruiters, advocates, data entry, administrators and families – for allowing us to be part of their efforts to improve the lives and well-being of migrant children. It is our hope that such efforts are paid forward and the spirit of an education without borders continues as long as it is needed.
